We like to start our day searching the web and reading articles about our beloved LA sports teams. It’s easy to get lost in the depth of the inter web, but luckily for you we have compiled a list of the most interesting and pertinent news stories for your morning reading pleasure. For this edition, let’s dive into the news surrounding the San Diego Padres.

Fox Sports discusses the moves of the San Diego Padres recently:

“I’m not going to name names, but other general managers, other ownerships, should be embarrassed.

If A.J. Preller can perform this kind of extreme makeover on the Padres, a previously inert, low-revenue club, why can’t everyone else do the same?

Granted, I have no idea how good the Padres will be after adding Matt Kemp, Wil Myers, Justin Upton, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron … oops, sorry, got carried away.

History tells us that winning the offseason is one thing and winning during the actual season is another. The Padres are still flawed — their lineup is overly right-handed, their outfield defense looks shaky and their infield is full of questions.

OK, fine, whatever.

Are the Padres better today than they were a week ago, before the acquisitions of the three outfielders, the trades for catcher Derek Norris and third baseman Will Middlebrooks and the additions of two bounce-back candidates, free-agent right-handers Brandon Morrow and Josh Johnson? “

The San Diego Padres have acquired left fielder Justin Upton from the Atlanta Braves, the team announced.

“The Padres also got right-hander Aaron Northcraftin the deal. Atlanta received minor league left-hander Max Fried, infielders Dustin Peterson and Jace Peterson, outfielder Mallex Smith and international bonus compensation.

Upton joins a Padres outfield that includes slugger Matt Kemp, acquired this month in a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Kemp was the first of a few big deals by new Padres general manager A.J. Preller, who also has added outfielder Wil Myers, the 2013 American League Rookie of the Year, from Tampa Bay and All-Star catcher Derek Norris from Oakland.

San Diego has landed another of baseball’s top power hitters in Upton, who is entering the final year of his contract and will earn $14.5 million. He had 29 homers and 102 RBIs last season.

Northcraft, 24, was a combined 7-10 with a 4.70 ERA at Double A and Triple A this past season.”
