We like to start our day searching the web and reading articles about our beloved LA sports teams. It’s easy to get lost in the depth of the inter web, but luckily for you we have compiled a list of the most interesting and pertinent news stories for your morning reading pleasure. For this edition, let’s dive into the news surrounding the San Diego Chargers.
The UT San Diego reports on a San Diego Chargers injury:
“There is no replacing Mike Scifres.
On Sunday night, and perhaps beyond, that became the Chargers’ challenge.
A second-quarter Scifres punt was blocked when penetration came off the right edge, his body doing a helicopter before falling to the turf. Kicker Nick Novak stepped in as the emergency fill-in.
Scifres suffered a shoulder injury on the hit, the team said.
His left arm was wrapped when carted off the field.
Patriots running back Brandon Bolden beat Chargers running back Donald Brown in protection. Novak began his work in relief with a 27-yard punt late in the second quarter before a 33- and 45-yarder in the third.
Amid concern of a possible broken collarbone, the severity of Scifres’ shoulder was not immediately known. The Chargers announced in the third quarter that Scifres would not return to the game.”

Here is a recap of yesterday’s game:
“The game began with the Chargers on offense but not making anything happen as they would punt after 7 plays of offense netting just 27 yards. As Tom Brady came on the field for the first time in the game, the Patriots would put together a long, 17-play drive lasting 8 minutes long but would eventually have to settle for a field goal. The Patriots would now have the lead, 3-0, late in the 1st quarter.
With the Chargers now having the ball, the bolts would move down the field effectively on their 2nd possession of the game and, on the 11th play of the drive, Philip Rivers would throw a nice ball to Malcom Floyd in the end zone which would require Floyd to leap for the ball towards the back of the end zone which would be a catch he would make. This would be a 15-yard throw for a touchdown as the Chargers get their first lead of the game, 3-7.
On the following New England possession, it would appear as if the Patriots would record a 1st down but, instead, the Patriots’ Brandon LaFell, would fumble the ball which would be recovered by Chargers’ Darrell Stuckey and it would be a clear path to the end zone as Stuckey would record a touchdown for the bolts giving them a lead of 3-14 as they would score 14 points in just about 2 minutes.”
