Hollywood Blvd. News – San Diego Chargers Edition
- Updated: October 31, 2014
We like to start our day searching the web and reading articles about our beloved LA sports teams. It’s easy to get lost in the depth of the inter web, but luckily for you we have compiled a list of the most interesting and pertinent news stories for your morning reading pleasure. For this edition, let’s dive into the news surrounding the San Diego Chargers.
According to ESPN.com, San Diego Chargers rookie cornerback, Jason Verrett, has a torn labrum in his left shoulder and will miss at least Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins.
“Verrett’s injury, originally diagnosed by team doctors, was confirmed by a specialist this week.
He suffered the injury in the second half against Oakland on Oct. 12. He left the game but later returned, sealing the win with an interception on Oakland’s final offensive play.
Verrett did not play the following week against Kansas City, but surprisingly suited up last Thursday against Denver. He saw action for 20 plays before re-injuring the shoulder, finishing the game from the sideline with his left arm in a sling.
Both Verrett and coach Mike McCoy said it wasn’t a mistake for Verrett to play in Thursday night’s 35-21 loss at Denver. Verrett left in the second quarter and stood on the sideline in the second half with his left arm in a sling.
“No, not at all,” Verrett said. “My goal is to always be ready every week. I tested it out pregame. I felt great. I just was trying to go out there because we were kind of short at corner. I just wanted to help my team.””

Philip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers (5-3) are looking to snap their two-game losing streak in a match versus the Miami Dolphins (4-3),
“If the Chargers follow the two keys listed in this article, they should get to 6-3 and enter their bye week on a high note. Otherwise, they slide back even further in a crowded AFC wild-card race.
San Diego hasn’t won at Miami since the “Epic in Miami” in 1982. The team has a good shot at getting over their South Florida struggles in 2014, with Rivers leading a crisp passing attack that has had time to recover after tough games versus Kansas City and Denver.
The Dolphins have one of the league’s deepest and most talented defensive lines. Cameron Wake, Olivier Vernon and Jared Odrick get little national press, but they are just as dangerous as Detroit’s front four and the J.J. Watt show in Houston.
There are fewer pleasantries to be said about the offense. Ryan Tannehill remains an up-and-down quarterback. The offensive line, while improved, still has some issues along the interior. Receiver Mike Wallace had some choice words for the unit’s performance at Jacksonville.”
