Hollywood Blvd. News – Los Angeles Kings Edition
- Updated: November 17, 2014
We like to start our day searching the web and reading articles about our beloved LA sports teams. It’s easy to get lost in the depth of the inter web, but luckily for you we have compiled a list of the most interesting and pertinent news stories for your morning reading pleasure. For this edition, let’s dive into the news surrounding the Los Angeles Kings.
The Los Angeles Kings beat the Annaheim Ducks in overtime:
“Jarret Stoll added more flavor to the Freeway Faceoff with a big game-winner for the defending Stanley Cup champions.
Stoll scored his first goal of the season 2:19 into overtime, and the Kings rallied for a 3-2 victory over the Ducks on Saturday.
Stoll tapped a slow-sliding puck under Frederik Andersen in the waning seconds of a power play, capping the Los Angeles’ much-needed comeback in the Southern California clubs’ second entertaining meeting of the week.
The Kings have won just three of their past 10 games overall, but their 37-shot effort against Andersen culminated with Justin Williams driving to the net and Stoll finishing it off.
“A lot of times our team doesn’t score the pretty goals,” said Stoll, who hadn’t scored an overtime goal since Nov. 17, 2005. “We grind it out, and we were lucky to get that one. … We pushed a little harder today.”
Tyler Toffoli scored a short-handed goal, Jonathan Quick made 27 saves and Anze Kopitar scored the tying power-play goal midway through the third period for the Kings, who got a boost from the intensity in this local derby.”

Another LA Kings player is down:
“The season started with Jake Muzzin being felled by a fluky injury, Slava Voynov being indefinitely suspended, and Robyn Regehr going down with an undisclosed injury. Now, Alec Martinez has been forced to undergo surgery, per Kings General Manager Dean Lombardi.
Martinez left the game early and did not participate in the third period during Thursday’s 2-0 loss to the Dallas Stars. Lombardi said he underwent surgery on his finger this morning, and it’s too early to tell how long his recovery/return time will take.
Since Regehr is recovering from his undisclosed injury and participated with the team today alongside Jamie McBain, he may be able to return to the lineup in Martinez’s place.
“It was only an ‘undisclosed’ injury. Those ones are usually pretty quick,” Regehr joked to Jon Rosen of lakingsinisder.com after today’s practice.”
