For your morning reading pleasure, let’s dive into the news surrounding the Los Angeles Kings.

Check out an excerpt from Part Two of Throwback Thursday Part Two: Kings vs. Hawks:

“Ah, those Blackhawks. Arguably the toughest opponent the Kings would face, and the Kings opponent in the Western Conference Finals for the second year in a row, so obviously it was rife with tension. In 2013 they stopped us from achieving back-to-back Stanley Cups, so of course, we had to return the favor. We didn’t get the greatest start – but that was to be expected. The Hawks clinched their Conference Final spot May 13th, three days and two games shorter than the Kings record. They were rested. The Kings beat the Ducks, flew the next day, then played game one the day after. So losing 3-1 wasn’t surprising or a real set back. So much so that they won the next three games, and could have closed out the series in the exact way Chicago closed them out the previous year (including doing it in double OT). But, it was not to be. The Kings were set to play their third game seven in as many series.”

Wondering how the Kings can make a comeback next season? Check out this excerpt:

“While no organization relishes missing the playoffs, having a solid summer of recuperation is probably exactly what the Kings need to get back to their previous level of play and compete for another Cup in the 2015-2016 season. Despite salary cap challenges, some dicey personnel problems and the likelihood that they’ll have to part ways with one or two core team members, the Kings can bounce back next season if they make a few key moves.

  • Take Care of Off-Ice Issues. It’s no secret that the long, ongoing domestic violence case against Slava Voynov has hurt the Kings both on and off the ice. Missing one of their top, mobile defensemen and part of the core team that helped them win two cups, was certainly part of the reason this traditionally, defense-first hockey club struggled in the goals against category much of the season. While Drew Doughty pinched in with above average minutes—even for Doughty, Brayden McNabb and Jamie McBainstepped in and performed admirably, and the Kings added Andrej Sekera from the Carolina Hurricanes in February to the roster, they couldn’t overcome the combination of Voynov’s absence, the loss of Willie Mitchell to the Florida Panthers at the start of the season and the team-wide fatigue.”
