Hollywood Blvd. News – Los Angeles Kings Edition

We like to start our day searching the web and reading articles about our beloved LA sports teams. It’s easy to get lost in the depth of the inter web, but luckily for you we have compiled a list of the most interesting and pertinent news stories for your morning reading pleasure. For this edition, let’s dive into the news surrounding the Los Angeles Kings.

Jeff Duarte sits down with former LA Kings player, Dustin Penner:

“Just mentioning the name of former Los Angeles Kings player and 2 time Stanley Cup Champion Dustin Penner can bring differing opinions and varying emotions from many hockey fans, especially those that follow the NHL teams that he has played for. (The Kings, Anaheim Ducks, Edmonton Oilers and the Washington Capitals.) Some fans are very positive and fond of him while others … not so positive.  To me though, when I hear the name Dustin Penner, three immediate thoughts come to mind instantly. I will explain them from a backwards order for no other reason than simply for more dramatic effect.

Number 3 – It was his goal in overtime against the Phoenix (now Arizona) Coyotes in the 2012 Western Conference final that put our beloved Los Angeles Kings back into the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 1993. I can still see Jeff Carter rushing towards the net to deliver a wrist shot, Phoenix goalie Mike Smith making the save but giving up a juicy rebound with a jumping puck that shot right by Mike Richards and 2 Phoenix defensemen and right onto Penner’s stick!  I can still hear Hockey Night in Canada’s legendary commentator Bob Cole (and myself while jumping off the couch) scream out Penner’s name just as he took that puck and put it right into the back of the net for the victory!”

Check out the recap from last night:

“The Los Angeles Kings blanked the Detroit Red Wings 1-0 tonight to extend their winning streak to 8 in a row. It is an exciting time to watch the Kings as they are stringing together wins after taking a lot of criticism earlier in the year.

While the Kings were coming off of a big win in the Stadium Series against the San Jose Sharks they put that in the ast and focused on the task at hand. Earlier in the day reports surfaced that Jordan Nolan received a three-year extension with the club.

Tonight it would only take one goal to win. Justin Williams scored a tip-in shot that was assisted by Anze Kopitar and Jake Muzzin.  This early goal had fans thinking they were in for a high scoring affair but both goaltender had other plans.”
