Hollywood Blvd. News – Los Angeles Dodgers Edition

We like to start our day searching the web and reading articles about our beloved LA sports teams. It’s easy to get lost in the depth of the inter web, but luckily for you we have compiled a list of the most interesting and pertinent news stories for your morning reading pleasure. For this edition, let’s dive into the news surrounding the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are close to another deal:

“According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX sports the Los Angeles Dodgers are close to a deal with free agent pitcher Brandon McCarthy.

McCarthy, has made his fair share of stops in the majors, but was traded from the D’Backs to the Yankees last season. As a Yankee, McCarthy put up great numbers as he went 7-5 with a 2.89 ERA.

Many MLB fans may know McCarthy from the devastating blow to the head he suffered in 2012. Los Angeles Angels hitter Eric Aybar hit a line drive that struck McCarthy in the head. McCarthy was taken to the hospital and had surgery immediately.

McCarthy has struggled with injuries since the incident but would be an excellent addition to the Dodgers rotation if he is able to stay healthy.”

“The Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed to trade Matt Kemp to the San Diego Padres.

According to multiple reports, the Dodgers will receive Padres catcher Yasmani Grandal, pitcher Joe Wieland and righty Zach Eflin. The Padres will keep Matt Kemp and catcher Tim Federowicz. But that’s not all! The Dodgers will also send about $31 million along with Kemp to cover part of his remaining salary.

ESPN.com reports:

“The trade helps alleviate a logjam of outfielders in the organization. Andre Ethier and prospect Joc Pederson will vie for playing time, with Yasiel Puig holding the starting job in right field and Carl Crawford in left. The Dodgers could also use role player Scott Van Slyke in the rotation.”

The Dodgers had a very busy day yesterday. To wrap up all of their moves: acquired second baseman Howie Kendrick, infielder Enrique Hernandez, reliever Chris Hatcher and minor leaguer Austin Barnes. As well as adding veteran shortstop Jimmy Rollins and agreed to a four-year deal with pitcher Brandon McCarthy, sources told ESPN.”
