As we know, Jered Weaver has been in the process of rehabbing from a stubborn hip. The Orange County Register reported last night that his latest rehab stunt was positive for the Inland Empire.

Although the game was delayed due to showers passing through San Bernardino. His return has been slower than the Angels’ Weaver anticipated, but he said the following after the Class-A game:

“Mechanically, everything was coming together, so it was a positive and a step in the right direction, for sure,” Weaver said after limiting the Birmingham Blaze to one unearned run and three hits in 63 pitches over 32/3 innings. “Just being able to throw my off-speed stuff out in front and getting out over my front side was a lot better. … It was nice.”

Jered Weaver hit the Angels 15-Day DL on June 21, and the team expected his return to be June 26. They completed a 60 pitch simulated game on the 21 and it was determined that he would need longer to heal. For Weaver, personally, he felt like this was the right decision.

The Orange County Register reports him saying,

“It’s been awhile, I’m not that used to this,” Weaver said. “There’s a lot of miles on this body now, so I needed to look myself in the mirror and say I wanted to get myself back to where I need to be and couldn’t keep going through it.”

“I still felt good after 63 (pitches), so 75 or 80 was definitely reachable,” said Weaver, who left the game after issuing a two-out walk. “That’s a good sign. I wanted to go after that next hitter.”

Is he missing his Angels teammates?

“It would be a little tougher to chew if we weren’t performing out there, but we’ve got five guys in the rotation who are throwing really well,” Weaver said. “At the same time, I still want to get out there.”

His return was originally set for this weekend’s series with the Dodgers but he says, “I don’t think we have anything set in stone yet. I’m going to wait to see what the trainers and coaching staff say and kind of go from there.”

We can’t wait for your return Jered!
