We like to start our day searching the web and reading articles about our beloved LA sports teams. It’s easy to get lost in the depth of the inter web, but luckily for you we have compiled a list of the most interesting and pertinent news stories for your morning reading pleasure. For this edition, let’s dive into the news surrounding the Los Angeles Angels.
The Los Angeles Angels beat the Seattle Mariners 5-3 to secure their first series of the season. Matt Shoemaker took the mound for the Angels and got some early run support thanks to Albert Pujols:
“After a Mike Trout single, Pujols hit his first home run of the year and number 521 for his career to give the Angels a 2-0 early lead. That home run tied Pujols for 18th all time on the career home run list.
The Angels weren’t done in the 1st inning. Erick Aybar reached base after a Robinson Canoerror. Cano’s error allowed David Freese and Matt Joyce to score which gave the Halos a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the 1st.
Hisashi Iwakuma settled in after the first inning jitters and pitched 6 innings allowing 9 hits and 4 earned runs while striking out 3.”

The Angels are going to open the season with four starting pitchers in the rotation instead of five, according to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times.:
“I suspected that was a possibility, as they (like a lot of teams) have an early off day which they can use to their advantage in setting up a rotation and carrying either an extra bench bat or relief pitcher before truly starting the day-to-day grind of the season in mid-April.
With the four man rotation news, though, it would appear Andrew Heaney and Nick Tropeanoare out of luck, considering Jered Weaver, C.J. Wilson, Matt Shoemaker and Hector Santiagoare in the fold.
This is smart for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is the development of both Heaney and Tropeano, and here’s why.”
