Hollywood Blvd. News – Los Angeles Angels Edition

We like to start our day searching the web and reading articles about our beloved LA sports teams. It’s easy to get lost in the depth of the inter web, but luckily for you we have compiled a list of the most interesting and pertinent or your morning reading pleasure. For this edition, let’s dive into the news surrounding the Los Angeles Angels.

According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, Josh Hamilton is possibly facing at least a 25 game suspension following the news that he relapsed after cocaine and alcohol abuse and has violated the MLB drug policy.

“It is still unclear how long the former MVP will be suspended. The officials are still deciding how long is appropriate; it looks as though it will be at least 25 games but less than a full season.

If the MLB are to follow their drug policy the suspension should be in the realm of at least 15 games but no more than 25.

Although, Hamilton is not expected to be ready for the regular season because he is recovering from an offseason shoulder surgery. As reported by SI.com, “the Angels owe him more than $90 million during the next three seasons as part of the five-year, $125 million deal he signed before the 2013 season.”

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim opened their Spring Training schedule at home on Thursday:

An error by Pete Orr in the sixth inning off a Ryan Wheeler ground ball scored Daniel Robertson, who himself had reached on an earlier error by Luis Sardinas, and that run held up as the difference in the game, pushing the Angels to a 1-0 Cactus League record Thursday afternoon.

Hector Santiago, in a battle for a spot in the starting rotation this season after starting 24 games for the Angels last season, threw two scoreless innings, allowing just a hit and a walk.

Cory Rasmus, one pitcher presumed to be battling with Santiago for that rotation spot, entered in the third and immediately allowed a Martin Maldonado double followed by a Matt Long single and a sacrifice fly by Scooter Gennett to start the inning.”
