Hector Olivera Part Of 3-Team Trade Including Latos

But wait, there’s more!

First, we heard that the Dodgers would be getting Mat Latos, Michael Morse and a competitive balance pick from the Miami Marlins for 3 unnamed minor league players, great I said and because we’d be taking on a lot of their salary more than likely the kids we’d be sending would be low-level and names no one would recognize or be rated highly on the Dodgers top 30 prospects, so great trade!

Then, we heard it may fall through, first the rumors were physicals, no one knew for who. Was it one of the kids the Dodgers were sending? Was it Latos, he did have a DL stint this season and last season so there was fear it would fall through, later we found out it was just paperwork, yay! I figured we were done, okay, deal is going to get done, let’s go!

Then on my way home imagine my surprise when it’s revealed that the Dodgers would not only get young(ish, he’s 27) right-handed starting pitcher in Mat Latos from the Marlins but also left-handed starting pitcher Alex Wood, a right-handed relief pitcher Jim Johnson and a left-handed reliever in Luis Avilán from the Atlanta Braves!

The full deal is this if you’re confused.

The Dodgers get – Mat Latos and Michael Morse from the Miami Marlins and Alex Wood, Jim Johnson and Luis Avilán from the Atlanta Braves

The Dodgers send – Zachary Bird, Hector Olivera and Michael Morse to the Braves and Jeff Brigham, Victor Araujo and Kevin Guzman to the Braves.

The Braves will also receive the competitive balance pick first reported as going to the Dodgers.

The only thing we aren’t sure of right now is whether or not Jose Peraza will be included in the deal, who was the #34 rated prospect before the season by MLB.com oh and of course the paperwork, more than likely the deal won’t be completed by tonight but this is all very exciting and these are the types of deals this FO is great at orchestrating.

But Tim, I hear you say, what about David Price or Cole Hamels? Well, there’s nothing that says the Dodgers can’t flip Alex Wood, a 24-year-old pitcher who isn’t a free agent until 2020 for David Price, because Detroit definitely wants MLB ready talent and a young already major league pitcher for David Price sounds right up the Tigers alley and if Peraza is included, he just might go to Detroit as well, it’s only July 29th and we ain’t done yet!
