Harris Turns Down Clippers Extension

Los Angeles Clippers Forward Tobias Harris turned down an $80 million extension from the team and will become an unrestricted free agent next offseason according to David Aldridge.
Clippers forward @tobias31 turns down $80 million extension offer from team, per sources. Amicable discussions. But he’ll play out final year of his current deal and be UFA next summer, when he’d be eligible for 5 yrs/$188M max from Clips or 4/$145.5 elsewhere.

Relax Clipper Nation, this is more likely a good thing than a bad one. For Harris this option made much more sense. Harris stands to make more money next offseason than he would agreeing to a deal right now.
This news also means that the Clippers are interested in keeping Harris and that the two sides are having a discussion about the 26 year-old returning after his fantastic season with the team. In 32 games with the Clippers, Harris averaged 19.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 47% from the field and 41% from beyond the arc.
Assuming Harris has another great season and remains injury free he will be in line for a massive contract next season, and it’s likely his largest offer will come from the Clippers.
