Harrell Powers Clippers To 96-91 Win Over Raptors

Clippers

Coming off of a comeback win against the Wizards Saturday, the Los Angeles Clippers hoped to keep the momentum rolling in their matchup Monday night with the Toronto Raptors.

That momentum took a hit though before the game even got started.

Gallinari had just returned from a different glute injury and the team was hoping to have him and guard Milos Teodosic back to help in the absence of Blake Griffin. With that being said Teodosic did return to action at Staples Center Monday in his first game since the team’s second of the season.

Teodosic was the focus for most fans as the game begun, wanting to see what they’ve been missing. But his return was a bit more realistic for a guy that’s missed the majority of the season. The passing guard struggled to get assists but his involvement clearly made a difference in the team’s ball movement. Teodosic closed the game with 12 points to go with 7 rebounds and an underwhelming 0 assists.

Teodosic was also on a minutes restriction in his return which led to more minutes for bench guys like sixth man Lou Williams. Williams has been on a tear lately and this one was no different. Hitting some clutch shots, Williams was able to knock in 17 points along with helping out his teammates getting 5 assists.

If you watched this contest though it wasn’t Williams that stood out as the best player to come off the bench for Los Angeles, it was Montrezl Harrell. Harrell had a monster second quarter that saw him will the Clippers back into the game.

On top of that rim-rattling dunk, Harrell hammered home 17 points in what was his best performance of the year.

Harrell benefitted greatly from the efforts of another big man, DeAndre Jordan. Jordan was opening all kinds of opportunities for his team on the offensive end due to his uncanny ability to crash the glass. Rarely this season have the Clippers won the rebounding battle against their opponent and it’s been even more unlikely they win the offensive glass. Jordan however wound up with 6 offensive rebounds and a total of 17 boards on the night. But it wouldn’t be a great Jordan performance if he didn’t finish it with a double-double and he got it with 14 points as well.

Jordan’s effort on the boards helped the Clippers win the always important battle for the boards over the Raptors. Out-rebounding them 57-42.

Trailing for most of the game the Clippers took the lead for the first time with just over 3 minutes remaining and the game would go back and forth until some clutch possessions by Teodosic and Williams closed the game out. Giving the Clippers a fantastic 96-91 win in yet another comeback performance.

Los Angeles will travel to Orlando for their next matchup with the Magic on Wednesday.
