Harper Powers Nats Past Dodgers
- Updated: July 21, 2016
Bryce Harper said enough was enough. Or should we say that was his bat talking.
The reigning NL MVP hit a monstrous 449 foot 2-run shot off of Bud Norris as part of an offensive outburst for the Nationals who defeated the Dodgers 8-1.
In the fifth inning the Nationals did more damage when it mattered. Despite Norris’s eight strikeouts, Ben Revere and former Dodger outfielder Jayson Werth homered in the fifth inning. It was the third outing in a row that Norris failed to get to the sixth inning.
On the other end the Dodgers offense which was vibrant on Tuesday, sputtered again similar to its weekend in Arizona. Charlie Culberson who played in place of Corey Seager drove a single into right to score Scott Van Slyke in the inning. It was the only resistance offered to the Nationals.
The Nats meanwhile tagged the Dodgers for three more runs in the sixth inning. After Wilson Ramos doubled off the right field wall to score Harper, Trea Turner had an RBI triple and for good measure stole home on Dodgers reliever Louis Coleman.
Notes:
Despite the Dodgers having lost three of its last four, the gap in the NL West remained at 4.5 games after the Red Sox defeated the Giants for the second night in a row 11-7. Former Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez homered three times including twice off starter Matt Cain.
Charlie Culberson replaced Corey Seager who watched the game in street clothes while battling through a stomach virus. Seager has been dealing with the virus since Tuesday and his status remains day-to-day.
Chris Hatcher was sent to the 15-day disabled list with an oblique strain.
