Grandal’s Late Home Run Lifts Dodgers Over Nats
- Updated: June 22, 2016
On a hot Tuesday night at Chavez Ravine, the Dodgers looked as if it were going through post Clayton Kershaw syndrome. An early home run given up to Bryce Harper off of Scott Kazmir, set up what looked to be another lull in the order.
Then Tanner Roark who seemed to be cruising through the order gave up a walk to Joc Pederson followed by a single from Yasiel Puig in his first game since returning from injury. Next thing the Nationals knew, what was a sleepy Tuesday night turned to a party in Los Angeles after Yasmani Grandal launched a home run over the center field wall.
The home run in the eighth inning proved to be the difference as the Dodgers won its fifth game in a row on a another stellar night from the bullpen. After Kazmir left the game in the sixth inning, the combined efforts of Adam Liberatore and Louis Coleman kept Los Angeles well within striking distance.
Following Grandal’s go-ahead home run, Kenley Jansen earned the save with Harper grounding out to Corey Seager to end the game.
Even though the Dodgers have won five in a row and are now seven games over 500. they still remain five in a half games out of first with the Giants defeating the Pirates 15-4. The Giants have now won nine of its last 10 games.
