Game Recap: Los Angeles Angels 12 Detroit Tigers 2
- Updated: May 29, 2015
The Anaheim Angels offense explodes for 13 hits against Detroit in 12-2 rout of the Tigers.
It was a hit parade on Thursday at Angel Stadium as every player in the Angels starting lineup managed to get a hit in the game. Albert Pujols starting off the scoring early, after a line drive homerun off Detroit starting pitcher Buck Farmer in the first inning, setting a pace that got the club going. The Angels offense scored in nearly all but three innings against the Tigers with help from main contributors Matt Joyce, who hit his third homerun of the season and second in back to back games, as well as Chris Iannetta who hit the first grand slam by an Angels catcher since Jeff Mathis in 2008.
C.J. Wilson pitched a terrific game as well only giving up two hits to the Tigers and only giving up one earned run. Wilson did however have a little issue with his control. The pitcher allowed five walks in the game and hit Miguel Cabrera with the bases loaded which lead to his lone earned run. C.J. was pulled from the game in the seventh inning with a 7-1 lead and his pitch count getting extremely high with 107 pitches. The Angels bullpen did a fine job in closing out the game, getting solid innings from Fernando Salas and Jose Alverez who conceded one run in the top of the ninth.
The Anaheim Angels are now back to .500 baseball and find themselves six games back of Houston as the club continues its roller coaster season. They will try to keep it going on Friday in the second of four games against Detroit at home on Matt Shoemaker bobblehead night. Hector Santiago will take the mound for the Halos as the team leader in ERA and strikeouts. Santiago will searching for his fourth win against Detroit starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez. Game time is set for 7:05 PT. Last note is look for shortstop Erick Aybar to be out of the lineup Friday after he was taken out of the game on Thursday in the fifth inning after pulling his hamstring. Manager Mike Scioscia said after the game the injury didn’t appear to be too serious however, “We will definitely make sure that he’s 100 percent before he gets back in our lineup”.
