Galaxy Fall To Dallas In Opener 2-1
- Updated: March 4, 2017
Welcome back for a brand new LA Galaxy season!
Kicking off this 2017 year for the Galaxy is FC Dallas at the StubHub Center in Carson.
A very different looking Galaxy lineup to start off the new year. Not just because of the departures of former captain Robbie Keane, Steven Gerrard and club favorite AJ Delagarza but because of some injuries as well. Gyasi Zardes, Robbie Rogers and Ashley Cole all would be absent Saturday due to injury.

Some excitement surrounded the new players coming into this matchup making their debuts for Los Angeles like former Marseille player Romain Alessandrini, USMNT player Jermaine Jones and Portuguese midfielder Joao Pedro.
Alessandrini played up to those lofty expectations. The 27 year-old midfielder was aggressive, playing up the field and doing his best to add to the Galaxy attack. He created some great opportunities for Jack McBean and Giovani Dos Santos up top. Despite having no goals, his presence was certainly felt in the attack and it’s clear why the Galaxy felt strongly about making him a Designated Player this offseason.
Jones and Pedro both held down the midfield in a pairing Galaxy fans hope will gel better moving forward. Both played very aggressive defensively and it resulted in the two having a yellow card a piece going into the half. This forced the pair to play a less physical style in the second half and that definitely hurt the club’s defense in the central midfield.
After heading into the half with the game tied at zero, the game took a dramatic turn immediately in the second 45 minutes.
Maximiliano Urruti was able to take advantage of a miscue by the Galaxy defense and fire one into the bottom corner on keeper Brian Rowe.
Go on, Maxi! 🎯

It wouldn’t take long for the Galaxy to answer back though. A penalty call on Dallas as they bring down Los Angeles defender Dave Romney in the box, earning the Galaxy a penalty. Dos Santos would answer the call and put a perfect ball right past Dallas keeper Chris Seitz.

Sadly though for Los Angeles that wouldn’t last long either as the exciting second half continued on with another goal. This one from Dallas midfielder Kellyn Acosta. Acosta was able to get right by his marker Daniel Steres and put a rocket by Rowe.
The kid’s good, folks.@KellynAcosta with a great touch + finish. 2-1. #LAvDALhttps://t.co/lsLwyfau7A

Los Angeles and new Manager Curt Onalfo would try to make some bold attacking changes to the lineup as the game dwindled down by bringing on Emmanuel Boateng and taking off Rafael Garcia leaving the team with just three true defenders but it wouldn’t be enough. Some late scoring efforts from another sub Ariel Lassiter wouldn’t be able to find the back of the net and it would be Dallas that escaped with a 2-1 victory in the season opener.
Never good to lose, especially at home but there were definitely some positives to take from the Galaxy’s play in this game. Fans will want to keep an eye on the return of those injured players as well as they were definitely missed in Saturday’s contest.
The Portland Timbers await Los Angeles next Sunday at the StubHub Center. This game will take place at 4 PM PST on Fox Sports One. Thanks for following along Galaxy fans!
