Galaxy And DC United Ends In Scoreless Draw
- Updated: June 3, 2017
With a win over DC United, the LA Galaxy would pass the club’s record of most consecutive away wins with four. However, the Galaxy could not do it and instead played out to a lackluster 0-0 draw in the nation’s capital.
There were chances for both sides, with DC having the better of the bunch. Neither team seemed to find a groove and that showed in the final scoreline.
LA lined up with Jon Kempin in goal after a Brian Rowe injury and Clement Diop away on international duty.

Romain Alessandrini had an early chance that was saved and put into the post. Kempin had to make a save of his own as the score remained deadlocked at zero through the first half of the opening 45 minutes.
Alessandrini looked like the best player on the field early on.
The Galaxy had dangerous chances but so did DC, and at halftime it was difficult to imagine a goal coming any time soon for either side.
At halftime, the Galaxy were outshooting DC 10-5 but the home side had the edge on possession at 51-49 percent. But the one stat that mattered remained 0-0.
After the intermission, DC had the best opportunity on a free kick which Kempin fumbled but was able to deny a close-range rebound to keep the game scoreless.
David Romney had a header from the top of the box acrobatically tipped over the bar by Bill Hamid.
DC’s Luciano Acosta had a strike from just outside the Galaxy box beat Kempin and hit the crossbar with under 20 minutes to play. The Galaxy did not look like they were ready to settle for a draw.
Jack McInerney came on for Emmanuel Boateng in the 75th minute in hopes to get a late goal to grab all three points. Then, Jaime Villarreal entered for Rafael Garcia.
DC had two late chances with one cleared out of the six-yard box by Ashley Cole and then an open header chance for former Galaxy defender Kofi Opare shot wide.
The game finished as it started: 0-0. Next up for the Galaxy is against Orange County SC in the U.S. Open Cup on June 14 at StubHub Center.
