Galaxy Can’t Take Advantage, Draw In Vancouver

Galaxy

The LA Galaxy headed to Vancouver to take on the Whitecaps Saturday night. Each team with two wins and six points to their credit at this early point in the season. This was the Galaxy’s first game this season without captain Robbie Keane after it was revealed he had knee surgery earlier this week that will keep him out for 4 to 6 weeks. Englishman Steven Gerrard and Mexican International Giovani Dos Santos would also both be out in this one with knocks of their own.

Nigel De Jong would step into the captain role in this one and he played fittingly. The 31 year-old had an excellent game and showed excellent leadership playing high and dropping back in the midfield.

Things seemed to be heading in the Galaxy’s direction as a red card was given to Vancouver midway through the first half.

Vancouver also had some injury problems in the first half as they were forced to sub out both Pedro Morales and Kekuta Manneh.

Los Angeles though did not seem to be taking charge of the game even with the one man advantage however. Emmanuel Boateng had some crosses that weren’t exactly on the money and caused the Galaxy to miss some chances and Mike Magee seemed more content yelling at the refs in this one than he did getting towards the net.

Brian Rowe had a clutch save towards the end of the first half but very little would make him look better than his counterpart in a Whitecaps uniform as David Ousted seemed to be 10 feet tall in the net. Ousted had some amazing saves that would deny some shots that absolutely should have found the back of the net. Galaxy forward Sebastian Lletget had a header off a great cross from Magee that Ousted somehow was able to get in front of and Gyasi Zardes, whom entered the game in the 60th minute for Baggio Husidic, put his foot through the ball in the 71st minute and Ousted again did an amazing job to get in front of the ball.

The Galaxy left two points on the table in this one and they should be disappointed in the result given that they were a man up for the majority of the contest. A positive to this game though was Bradford Jamieson IV entering the game late for Boateng as he made some great plays that included a shot late that again was thwarted by the brilliant Ousted. Another young player that impressed in this one was starting forward Ariel Lassiter who made his MLS debut for the Galaxy Saturday night. While he wasn’t able to find the back of the net, he did show some great skill up top and the idea that Manager Bruce Arena played both of these usual Los Dos players is very encouraging for the younger players in the Galaxy system.

Next Los Angeles will take on the defending MLS Cup champion Portland Timbers at Stubhub Center in Carson. The game will be on Fox Sports 1 next Sunday night at 6:30 PM PST.Hopefully that one goes better for the Galaxy than this one did and the return of some key players from injury would be a great start for the club.
