Congratulations to Fullerton’s Golden Hill Little League for winning the 2019 world championship in the Junior division!! What a great accomplishment! The Fullerton boys captured the world title on Sunday by beating a team from Puerto Rico, 8-3, at Heritage Park in Taylor, MI.

Golden Hill looked golden.

On Friday, Golden Hill won the United States championship while Radames Lopez Little League of Guayama, PR., won the International title. Congratulations to each of those leagues !!

The two champs faced each other in the title match of the 39th annual Junior League Baseball World Series. Kyle Kim led Southern California’s team on Sunday both on the mound and at the plate. Huge day for him. Kim pitched brilliantly. The US pitcher only gave up one run during his 6 2/3 innings to pick up the win. With the bat, Kim went 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored a run.

Poor weather caused a massive three-hour rain and lightning delay after the third inning. Terrible winds marred much of the game. Junior division is for players of ages 13-14 years old. It is generally the next step after graduating from Little League Majors. Seven players on the Southern California team played on Golden Hill’s Majors all-star team last year.

Where are they now?

It is time for the latest installment of our favorite segment called, Where are they now?

Congratulations to the boys named to Chula Vista’s Eastlake Middle School baseball team !! Most of those 18 names listed above should look familiar. CaliSports News mentioned 11 of them in its articles this year. Seven played in the California District 42 finals between Bonita’s Sweetwater Valley Little League and Chula Vista’s Eastlake Little League. Four played on one team, while the other three played on the other. Yes, they attend the same middle school.

On a side note, it amazes me how many family members of those 18 that I met. I sat with them in 2017 while rooting for Eastlake Little League. In 2018, I bumped into them during the District 42 tournament. In 2019, I sat with them during Sweetwater Valley’s run, and during a travel ball tournament while rooting for the San Diego Hustle Baseball Academy. I messaged back and forth with the mother of one of those 18 boys during Eastlake 11U games this summer. Earlier this month, I even shared a table inside a San Bernardino coffee lounge with an uncle of one of those players before their game in the West Region tournament. Great people. Great families.

I shall sign off with a photo showcasing my seven different versions of Sweetwater Valley t-shirts, four different Sweetwater Valley caps, and three different SVLL pins. How did I get here? Go Sweetwater Valley !! Go Eastlake Middle School !! Let’s Go Golden Hill !! Let’s Go SoCal !!
