In an unfortunate incident, Former Top Angels pick Ryan Bolden was fatally shot Wednesday night.

Bolden was just 23 years old, and hadn’t played since 2013. He was drafted out of Madison Central High School in Mississippi by the Los Angeles Angels as the 40th overall pick in the 2010 amateur draft. His short-lived life would end after an argument broke out at an apartment complex in College Park, Ga.

What’s even worse is, that this altercation started because of candy. From ajc.com

“ Ryan Bolden, 23, of Madison, Miss, was shot and killed around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 4000 block of Lakemont Drive in College Park.

The shooting stemmed from an altercation between kids fighting over candy, witnesses told police. Adults became involved in the altercation and things escalated from there, resulting in Bolden being shot.

College Park police said they have identified the suspect involved in the dispute. The shooter’s identity is not being released by authorities at this time”.

Sadly Bolden’s baseball career was a bust. He would play in parts of 4 seasons and never get past rookie ball. He batted below .200 average. In 2013, he played just seven games with the Orem Owlz of the Pioneer League, before retiring due to back issues.

The once coveted prospect never panned out to be the talent the Angels saw in him. You can blame it on health issues, or him not being talented enough. Maybe even a combination of both.

All in all, it’s a very unfortunate situation when a life is lost at such a young age.
