Former Laker Derek Fisher Fired From Post With Knicks

‏@SLAMonline

According to Marc Stein of ESPN.com former Los Angeles Lakers guard Derek Fisher has been fired as the head coach of the New York Knicks.

Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.com also reported the news.

Fisher was named the Knicks head coach just days after he announced his retirement is in his second year as a coach. Once the Knicks brought in Phil Jackson to run their front office Jackson went after Steve Kerr and then ended up with Fisher.

It was known that Jackson believed that Fisher who was a stable member of the Lakers championships with Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal would be a leader of men. His knowledge of the triangle offense was also something that Jackson was looking for.

Jackson believed that Carmelo Anthony would be able to thrive in the triangle offense. New York struggled last year and ended up with the fourth overall pick where they selected Kristaps Porzingis who has surprised many people around the league.

Porzingis has shown excellent potential and looks to be the future of the Knicks. With New York unable to sign any big name free agents this summer they went after solid rotational pieces.

They signed Robin Lopez, Arron Afflalo, and Kyle O’Quinn to help improve their roster. New York started off the season strong and had fans believing they could make the playoffs.

After losing nine out of their last ten it seems very improbable now. Kurtis Rambis will take over for the Knicks for now and the Knicks will almost certainly go after Luke Walton this summer.
