Fisher’s Spat With Dickerson The Latest Gaffe In Already Forgettable Season
- Updated: November 29, 2016
My oh my what an interesting day to be a fan of the Los Angeles Rams. A team that was destined for immediate success under the maligned Jeff Fisher who made a vow that this team “Will not be another 8-8 team.” His words when the Rams first arrived and the only thing there was to say was welcome. One of the first men part of that committee was hall of famer Eric Dickerson who has now been taken off the VIP list by Mr. 8-8 himself.
According to ESPN staff writer Alden Gonzalez, Dickerson was told by Fisher to stay off the Rams sidelines. He has now vowed to never come to a Rams again as long as the man with the second most losses in NFL history is in charge. In a season that started off with so much promise and fortune has now turned into typical Hollywood drama but Fisher cannot hide from.
If the questionable calls on fourth down, the series of botched fake punts or waiting until week 10 to use its first round pick wasn’t the last straw then upsetting arguably the greatest running back in NFL history should do it.
This isn’t St. Louis anymore and this sure isn’t Fisher’s show. It hasn’t been since the Rams took an embarrassing loss to Blaine Gabbert’s 49ers team and it just shows that throughout the ho-hum no accountability and no responsibility press conferences that he is taking any responsibility. Now the man who was the piece of what the old LA Rams used to be about has been disheartened. And for you Fisher, your actions on Eric Dickerson is the biggest personal foul of the season.
The sad news for Fisher is he had former players who had optimism despite the dark desperate road that was to come. Just two weeks ago Jack Youngblood had this to say well at the Rams opening construction ceremony in Inglewood:
“If people weren’t upset, then they would be like Cleveland. We don’t want to be like Cleveland and in a different way you think about it, that’s a good thing. That motivates the coach to get all the pieces in the right place and make this thing happen. And I believe (Fisher) is on that right track.”
That was when the Rams were 4-5 and at a point where Case Keenum had been playing relatively well and maybe giving Goff a season to adjust wasn’t such a bad idea. It was also a time when securing a division title wasn’t so far off.
Now Fisher has gone beyond the realm of producing a basic offense and a defense that even with the talent it has with Aaron Donald still finds a way to under achieve. Insulting the Rams great is the biggest personal foul of the year and its time for general manager Les Snead and owner Stan Kroenke to make changes.
