Editorial: Breast Cancer Awareness Month
- Updated: October 3, 2015
October is a month that is exciting and also very important to the CaliSports Family and myself especially. In a few short days we will celebrate our one year anniversary as a website. However most importantly October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
According to breastcancer.org about 1 and 8 U.S. women will develop invasive breast cancer in their lifetime (Sorry to Jeff and his Canadian friends not trying to exclude you).
In 2015 alone more that 230,000 more cases are expected to surface. It is also possible for men to develop the cancer as well. It is expected that 2,300 more case are expected to surface in men alone this year.
I’m sure that we may know someone who went through the some sort of cancer, maybe not breast cancer but it is important to recognize that over 2.8 million U.S. women have battled breast cancer since it’s existence.
This is not intended to scare you or to make you rush out and empty your bank accounts to the cancer research funds. This is intended to help continue to grow awareness of the disease. Check out breastcancer.org and learn about how to help prevent it.
If you know someone who is growing through this disease, continue to provide love and support. Many people have gone through this fight against breast cancer and they need your thoughts and prayers.
If reading this gives you the urge to pick up your phone and call someone you know I think we’ve done our job here.
On behalf of the CaliSports News Team Happy Breast Cancer awareness month. We admire the survivors, but most importantly we support the fighters.
