The Lakers open the season in just a few hours against the Houston Rockets and who else are can we talk about other than Dwight Howard. Dwight Howard will face Kobe Bryant for the first time since leaving the Lakers for the Rockets during the 2013 free agency period.

Earlier in the week Lakers head coach Byron Scott thought that Howard didn’t have the same desire to win as Bryant. To read more on Scott’s comments click here.

Dwight Howard answered to the rumors stating that Howard left the Lakers because of Kobe Bryant. Howard is quoted on ESPN.com here:

I didn’t leave L.A. because I was afraid of Kobe Bryant,” Howard said Tuesday, according to the Houston Chronicle. “I went to a good situation for myself. I can’t change people’s opinions, but I did what I had to do for myself.”

Howard added:

“It’s over with now. There’s no need to continue to talk about it. It happened. We played together for a year,” Howard said of his time in L.A. with Bryant, according to the Chronicle. “The whole team was injured, didn’t really get an opportunity to do what we all set out to do.

“Things happen. Life happens. I think everybody needs to move forward from the situation and worry about their respective teams.

Both parties have moved on and take the floor tonight in the season opener. Kobe Bryant makes his highly anticipated return and fans all over twitter have high expectations for the 5 time NBA champion.

Only time will tell, but I expect the Mamba to fully strike back!
