Ducks Offense Explodes for 6 Goals Beat Flames

The Anaheim Ducks offense exploded for six goals on Monday night as they handled the Flames 6-4. In a first period that saw a goaltender swap and five goals the Ducks were able to whether the storm and hold on to get the win.

In the first period Ryan Getzlaf picked up a tripping penalty against Sam Bennett that led to a power play goal. Johnny Gaudreau scored his 22nd goal of the year. His goal was assisted by Sean Monahan (20) and Jiri Hudler (23).

A few minutes later Anaheim answered back with a power play goal of their own. Hampus Lindholm scored his 7th goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1.

About a minute and a half later Dougie Hamilton scored a power play goal. For Hamilton it was his 9th goal of the year and was assisted by Monahan (21) and the Flames held a 2-1 lead.

Mike Santorelli got in on the action later in the period. He scored a wrist shot goal, his 8th goal of the season that was assisted by Cam Fowler (12) and Kevin Bieksa (9).

In a game that was much different than the last time these two teams played yet another goal was scored in the final minutes of the period. Jiri Hudler scored a wrist shot goal for his 8th goal of the season. Gaudreau (31) and Dougie Hamilton (17) were credited with the assists.

After the first period the Ducks trailed 3-2 but all that changed in the second period. Corey Perry got things started with a power play goal. He scored a wrist shot goal that was his 22nd of the season that was assisted by Fowler (13) and Getzlaf (37).

A minute later Sami Vatanen scored another power play goal. His goal was assisted by David Perro (19) and Fowler (14). Rickard Rakell got in on the action in the period as well. He scored his 14th goal of the season that was assisted by Perry (18) and Simon Despres (2) and gave Anaheim a 5-3 lead.

At the end of the period Hudler scored a backhanded goal, his 9th of the season. His goal was assisted by Gaudreau (32) and Monahan (22) and gave the Flames momentum going into the 3rd period.

In the third and final period Santorelli scored his 9th goal of the season. Ryan Kesler (17) and Josh Manson (6) were credited with the assists and the Ducks held on to win 6-4.

Frederik Andersen made 33 saves for a 89% save percentage. Jonas Hiller got pulled and made 13 saves for 76% save percentage.

Anaheim will take on the Edmonton Oilers tonight at 6:00 p.m.
