Ducks’ Hampus Lindholm signs six-year extension
- Updated: October 27, 2016
The Anaheim Ducks and Hampus Lindholm have finally agreed to a contract, ending a four-month saga.
According to TSN, the Ducks and Lindholm agreed to a six-year extension totalling in $31.5 million. The defenseman has been a key part of the Anaheim’s team in recent years and the Ducks are fortunate to hold on to the highly talented Swede.
Lindholm salary breakdown: $3M (2016-17), $6M (2017-18), $6.75M (2018-19), $5.25M (2019-20), $3.75M (2020-21), $6.75M (2021-22).

The 22-year-old has scored 23 goals and has earned 69 assists in 236 total NHL games. Last season alone, Lindholm blocked 115 shots led Anaheim’s defensmen in goals with 10. A key component of Lindholm’s skillset is his possession, which helps the Ducks control games.
With the extension for Lindholm, the Ducks’ relationship with the salary cap tightens. The Ducks appear to be capped out according to some reports. Though this sounds like a problem for Anaheim, Lindholm re-signing along with Rickard Rakell, provides the Ducks with players for the future to lead Anaheim.
The Ducks started this season with a difficult road trip that saw Anaheim leave with few points but the return back to California has been a change in pace with the Ducks getting two wins at home, including a 6-1 thrashing of the Nashville Predators at Honda Center, and an overtime loss in San Jose.
With the addition of Lindholm back in Anaheim’s roster, the Ducks will sharpen up on defense and could have the promising season under head coach Randy Carlyle that many expected prior to the start of the season.
