Ducks Fall In Shootout In Home Opener

The Anaheim Ducks struggled on offense again and fell in their home opener to the Vancouver Canucks in a shootout 2-1. Last time out the Ducks fell to the San Jose Sharks on the road and looked to right the ship at home.
In the first period the Ducks had a few chance but were unable to find the back of the net. They outshot Vancouver 9-6 but neither team was able to score.
In the second period it was the Ducks who struck first. Sami Vatanen hit slap that found the back of the net. His goal was assisted by Andrew Cogliano and Mike Santorelli and gave Anaheim a 1-0 lead.
Vancouver answered back later in the period. Adam Cracknell hit a slap shot found the net. His goal was assisted by Brandon Prust and Jannik Hansen and the game was tied at 1-1 after the second period.
Neither team was able to find the net in the third period or overtime so they went to the shootout. Jakob Silfverberg scored his shootout attempt.
Radim Vrbata and Alex Burrows both scored for the Canucks and Anaheim fell 2-1.
Frederik Andersen recorded 24 saves on 25 shots. On the other side Ryan Miller recorded 28 saves on 29 attempts.
Up next for the Ducks they will take on the Arizona Coyotes at home on Wednesday night.
