Ducks Fall In Season Opener 2-0

SAN JOSE, Ca- The Anaheim Ducks were shutout in their season opener against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday night 2-0.
While the Sharks did not make the playoffs last season they opened up their series with an impressive 5-1 win over the Kings, and a victory over the Ducks.
The first period was scoreless, but the Sharks led the shots on goal category 13-9. In the second period Patrick Marleau hit a wrist shot past Frederik Andersen to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead. Logan Couture and Joel Ward were credited with the assists.
Anaheim led the shots on stat in the second period 15-14 but were unable to find the back of the net. In the third period Marleau found the back of the net for the second time of the night. His goal was a wrap shot that was assisted by Joel Ward and gave San Jose a 2-0.
The Ducks struggled throughout the entire third period. They were able to muster just 3 shots on goal compared to San Jose’s 17.
Anderson recorded 42 saves on the night. On on the other side Martin Jones made 27 and the Sharks pushed their record to 2-0 on the season.
Anaheim will play host to the Vancouver Canucks on Monday night at 7:00 p.m. PST
