Strengths: 1. Physical Tools 2. Pick and roll capability 3. Defensive potential
1. Physical Tools
Mudiay has a NBA body at 19 years old. At 6’5 200 lbs he has the gifts to compete with NBA PG today. He is a very good athlete with an extremely quick first step which allows him to play above the rim, like many of the other PG we love today, i.e. Russell Westbrook and Derrick Rose. He is able to use his size to finish through contact and finish plays with either hand. Due to his size and athletic ability the sk is the limit for the 19-year-old.
As a 6’5 PG he is comfortable using his size to his advantage, by posting up and finishing. He also uses his athleticism to out-jump taller opponents for rebounds.
- Pick and roll capability
He utilizes the pick and roll to his advantage and he understands how to change speeds and direction to get to the basket. He is a very willing and able passer who makes the right pass. He makes pocket passes to the big man and throws the lob in the right situations. Mudiay is able to use his eyes to get shooters open in the pick and roll. He is also able to hit the midrange jumper if the defense sags off in the pick and roll while also utilizing the hesitation to freeze the defense.
- Defensive potential
Mudiay has the God-given gifts to play at both ends of the floor at the NBA level. He has a 6’8 and a half wingspan which allows him to guard the one and the two. He also has quick lateral speed which can help him to stay in front of smaller guards. Mudiay possesses great on-ball defense and when engaged, stays in an excellent stance and locks down. He has good instincts and plays to passing lanes well and is able to use his length to his advantage in that sense.
