Dos Santos Gets First Galaxy Goal In 3-0 Win

Galaxy

Two teams fighting not to finish at the bottom of the Western Conference battled it out Sunday night in Carson as the LA Galaxy took on Minnesota United FC.

Minus Sebastian Lletget and Gyasi Zardes, this Galaxy team was just about at full strength for this one. With Los Angeles being as healthy as they’ve been all year, fans can only hope the results improve.

While there is little for this team to play for it can be assumed manager Sigi Schmid has discussed with his players the importance of their play in these last few matches in regards to their position on the club next season. It looks like that conversation clicked through if so as Los Angeles came out clicking almost immediately.

After a bit of a feeling out period in the first 10 minutes, it was Galaxy standout Romain Alessandrini who would put one in the back of the net off of a pretty pass from his fellow Designated Player Gio Dos Santos.

After taking the lead on an unquestionably great goal by Alessandrini, the Galaxy remained in control and continued to take the ball right at the Minnesota defense. That aggressiveness led to a Jonathan Dos Santos goal that was in question however, at first. Originally saying the ball never crossed over the line the referees decided to take a second look using the newly anointed Video Assisted Referee. VAR has given Galaxy supporters headaches since it’s inception as it rarely helps the club but in this case it helped award Dos Santos with his first Galaxy goal off of a wonderful header.

The Dos Santos goal gave Los Angeles that little bit of breathing room the fans craved as no lead has seemed safe so far in this torrid season.

With Alessandrini scoring the first goal and assisting on the second it only made sense that his night wasn’t over quite yet. The frenchman wanted to add yet another goal to his stellar performance and indeed he would with a breakaway goal as time expired. Putting his club up 3-0 just before the final whistle sounded.

Another solid game from Alessandrini, who figures to be a strong candidate for Major League Soccer’s newcomer of the year award. Despite Los Angeles’ performance this season, the 28 year-old has been the lone bright spot for his team.

Speaking of talented bright spots, Bradford Jamieson IV had to leave the game at the half due to an adductor injury. Hopefully the 20 year-old recovers quickly as his recent play has put him in the team’s plans moving forward. Getting him as much time as possible to close out this season could do wonders for his development.

Overall a great night to be a Galaxy fan and supporters should relish in it as it’s been a rare occurrence in this 2017 campaign.
