Don’t Worry About 2017 Vladimir Guerrero, See You In 2018
- Updated: February 3, 2017
In his first year of eligibility, former Los Angeles Angels Vladimir Guerrero came up short of the entering the MLB Hall Of Fame. Guerrero did not qualify despite receiving 327 votes and getting 71.7%. The requirement is 75% for entry into the hall of baseball immortality.
Guerrero arrived in Anaheim in 2004, and he led the team to a playoff berth, just two years removed from the Angels first world series title. The 2004 American League MVP won the award for the only time in his career with the Angels. Guerrero ranked in the top ten in the MVP voting four times in his first four years with the Angels (2004-2008). His MVP season in 2004 was one of his best. Guerrero ranked in the top five in home runs, RBI’s, hits, runs scored and runs created. In his first three seasons with the Angels, he averaged 30 homers and 105 RBI’s.
If you can take a look at his numbers, Guerrero is tied with Hall Of Famer Jeff Bagwell for 38th on the all-time home run list with 449 homers. His 1496 career runs batted in placed him just behind Hall Of Famer Mickey Mantle.
There are some players that can be considered for the Hall Of Fame and some that should be in the Hall. Vladimir Guerrero should get the call next season. The ballot for next season is very crowded with Trevor Hoffman (3rd year on the ballot), Jim Thome and Chipper Jones (both in their first year of eligibility on the ballot) and Edgar Martinez (9th year on the ballot). This could be a very excellent class of players going into the Hall Of Fame. These five players should be in the Hall Of Fame,
I personally have an argument for all five, but with the numbers and the impact he had on the Angels after coming over from Montreal, Vladimir Guerrero deserves to be in Cooperstown in 2018. The Hall Of Fame has the best of the best players, in this case, the body of work for Guerrero’s career can be compared to the all-time greats in the Hall Of Fame.
