Scott Van Slyke hit a 3-run home run in the bottom of the 9th inning and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Miami Marlins 5-3 Monday night. And people say they don’t like Mondays.
Zack Greinke got the start for the Boys in Blue today. He had a very impressive outing as he pitched 7 innings allowing 6 hits and 1 run. He also struck out 5 batters and walked 2. Although he pitched well he headed up with a no decision.
For the Marlins Tom Koehler got the start. He also had a strong outing. He pitched 6 innings allowing 3 hits and 1 run. He struck out 5 and walked 4. He received a no decision as well.
The offense got started in the 4th inning for the Dodgers. Justin Turner reached on a fielder’s choice that brought in Howie Kendrick. This gave the Dodgers a 1-0 lead.
In the 7th inning Marcell Ozuna hit a solo shot to left field to tie the game at 1-1. This was his 3rd home run of the year.
The Dodgers answered back in the bottom half of the inning when Joc Pederson hit a RBI single to center field that brought in Van Slyke. This gave the Dodgers a 2-1 lead heading into the 8th.
In the 9th inning Yimi Garcia came on to close the game out. Christian Yelich had other ideas as he hit a 2-run blast to left field to give the Marlins a 3-2 lead.
With the Dodgers backs against the ropes Van Slyke delivered the hit of the night. His three run shot off of Steve Cishek brought in Enrique Hernandez and Andre Ethier and the Dodgers won in walk-off fashion 5-3.
The Dodgers and Marlins will continue their series tomorrow night at 7:10 p.m. PST.
