The Dodgers picked up their 70th win of the season today, with a 1-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.
A lone run in the top of the second inning, on a bases loaded ground out by Yasmin Grandal, stood up as the only bit of offense the team needed.
Zack Greinke,(W,14-3), pitched seven strong innings and struck out nine Reds on 109 pitches for the win. This game was a bit frustrating in several aspects. Yasmani Grandal managed to get the only run across for the team, but his day at the plate wasn’t something that he would like to repeat. Grandal hit into three double plays and struck out in his last plate appearance, going 0-4 for the day.
Chris Hatcher pitched a scoreless eight inning and Jim Johnson pitched the ninth, retiring all three batters he faced, for his first save as a member of the Dodgers. A great defensive play in the bottom of the ninth, by Joc Pederson, helped Johnson to preserve the save.
The team will be keeping an eye on Yasiel Puig, who re-injured his hamstring, after running out a single in the top of the ninth, hopefully, nothing serious and he can get back into the lineup.
Los Angeles, (70-56), will now travel home after the long road trip, to start two very important series at home, with the Chicago Cubs and the arch rivaled San Francisco Giants. The win keeps the Dodgers on top of the National League West, over the San Francisco Giants by three games.
