- Updated: August 7, 2016
The Dodgers returned the favor with a 3-0 shutout win vs Boston on Saturday, keeping pace with the Giants and remaining two games back.
Ross Stripling tossed five scoreless frames, dropping his season ERA to an extremely respectable 3.79 and eventually earning his third win of the season (3-3). The Dodgers got to Red Sox lefty Eduardo Rodriguez for three runs over four and a third innings. “E-Rod” would eventually take his fifth loss (2-5).
LA took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by A.J. Ellis plating Adrian Gonzalez. Things got quiet for a bit until the Dodgers were able to extend their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI double by Corey Seager and an RBI single by Gonzalez.
Los Angeles took a 3-0 lead into the sixth which was when things got turned over to the bullpen. Grant Dayton came up big with two scoreless frames (sixth and seventh) and Joe Blanton tossed a quick and scoreless eighth to set things up for Jansen in the ninth. He had no trouble shutting the door on the Red S0x with a 1-2-3 inning, and the Dodgers were able to take game two of the three game series setting up for a rubber match on Sunday.
