Dodgers Ned Colletti Takes On New Role
- Updated: October 14, 2014
Ned Colletti has been the Dodgers GM since 2005, but as of Tuesday morning he will be taking on the role of senior adviser to the president and CEO of the Dodgers, Stan Kasten.
“Ned Colletti has played a major role in the success of the Los Angeles Dodgers over the last nine years and I’m thrilled that we are able to retain him as a special advisor to me,” Kasten said in the statement. “Ned’s knowledge and experience in the game covering 33 years will be a great asset to the club as we continue to add and build our player development system.”
Colletti took the Dodgers to the postseason in five of his nine years as GM. He’s done an OK job in his recent years with the signings of Manny Ramirez, Hanley Ramirez, Adrian Gonzalez or even the extensions of Matt Kemp and Clayton Kershaw. However, this postseason’s exit as well as last year’s, the failure remained within the Dodger bullpen.
Colletti on 9 years as Dodgers GM: “It’s been special. It’ll be different now. But it will also be special. And for that I am grateful.”
Although the Dodgers have made the postseason five times in the last nine years and eight winning seasons, the Dodgers playoff drought still remains an astonishing 26 years. While they still consider Colletti to be a huge factor to the team, they believe he wouldn’t be the best fit as a GM, as they desperately seek to end this long world series drought.
