Dodgers Fall To D-Backs In Extras

@Dbacks

The Dodgers were walk-off losers in Saturday’s contest at Arizona, falling 2-1 in 12 innings.

LA took an early 1-0 lead in the 3rd on an RBI single by Justin Turner plating Chase Utley, and it looked for a while like one run was enough. Brandon McCarthy cruised through six beautiful innings in which he allowed no runs and struck out six, and Adam Liberatore and Joe Blanton each tossed scoreless frames to get the game to Kenley Jansen.

Jansen recorded one out before giving up a single to Michael Bourn, then with two outs, Bourn stole second. Jake Lamb came through clutch for the Diamondbacks with a game-tying two-out double to center, and we went to extras in a 1-1 tie. It was Jansen’s fourth blown save of the season.

Pedro Baez pitched a scoreless 10th and Louis Coleman a scoreless 11th, but Casey Fien came into the game in the bottom of the 12th and couldn’t record an out. He gave up a leadoff triple to Jake Lamb then intentionally walked the next two batters to load the bases with no outs, and Brandon Drury followed up with a game-winning walk-off single to right. Lamb scored the winning run and the D-Backs were walk off winners, 2-1 in 12 innings.

The loss dropped the Dodgers to 52-41 on the season, but they’ll remain 5.5 games back of San Francisco after another Giants loss.

The Dodgers and Diamondbacks will meet Sunday afternoon for the finale of their three game set. Kenta Maeda will get the ball for LA looking to clinch the series victory, and Robbie Ray will get the start for Arizona.
