Dodgers Fall to Brewers 4-3

Clayton Kershaw took the mound tonight against the Brewers and did very Kershaw-like things, until the 8th inning that is.

He not only did this:

Kershaw threw for 7.1 innings and allowed 3 runs on 5 hits and had 8 strikeouts.  He dominated nearly the entire game but it was the 8th inning that chased Kershaw out of the ball game.

It looked as if Kershaw would go a full 9 innings to shut the game down. However, things crumbled quickly.

It was a solo home run by Hector Gomez making it 3-2 Dodgers, followed by a double by Adam Lind that chased Kershaw from the game, forcing the Dodgers to bring Chris Hatcher in.

Hatcher came in and allowed a double to Carlos Gomez and an infield single to Ryan Braun that allowed the Brewers a 4-3 lead going into the 9th.

Dodgers’ offense started fairly early, as the red-hot Joc Pederson hit a solo home run to start the game in the first inning, hitting in the lead-off spot to give the Dodgers an early 1-0 lead.

Pederson has now homered in 4 of his last 5 games as he hit his 7th home run of the season.

In the fourth inning, the Dodgers added some insurance runs.

It all began with Adrian Gonzalez being hit by a pitch. Andre Ethier continued his hot bat and singled on a line drive to left field.

Yesterday’s walk-off hero, Yasmani Grandal, came clutch as he singled to center field, scoring Adrian Gonzalez which gave the Dodgers a 2-0 lead.

Juan Uribe came up right after and hit a fly ball to center fielder Carlos Gomez, but Gomez’s throw was not enough as Ethier scored on the sacrifice fly giving the Dodgers a 3-0 lead.

However, those three runs were not enough as the Dodgers came up short in the 9th and went down in order, falling to the Brewers 3-4.

Dodgers continue to struggle on the road as they now fall to 3-7 and snap their 4-game win streak. On a brighter note, the Dodgers are 16-9 and are still atop the NL West with the Padres trailing.

The Dodgers look to even the series at 1-1 tomorrow night at 5:10 as Zack Greinke looks to remain undefeated.
