Dodgers Beat Arizona, 4-1 Closing In On Division Title
- Updated: September 24, 2015
The Los Angeles Dodgers replacement starter Carlos Frias gave the team four solid innings and the team’s bullpen was perfect in the 4-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Frias was a late replacement for starter Zack Greinke, who has been dealing with a sore calf. He allowed the D’Backs only run on a homer to Paul Goldschmidt in the top of the second inning.
Chase Utley has been in the Major Leagues since 2003, last night he accomplished a first by hitting a leadoff homer, on the first pitch from Arizona starter Chase Anderson.
Rookie Corey Seager continued his impressive play, adding a two-run homer, in the bottom of the eighth to put the game in the win column for the home team. Reliever Chris Hatcher (W,3-5), was pitcher number four out of the bullpen, picked up the win, Kelly Jansen (S,33), closed out the Diamondbacks in the ninth, to earn the save.
The win was much needed for the Dodgers (86-65), the team has finally put an end to a four game losing streak and with the San Francisco Giants loss, this helped pushed the lead back to seven full games, in the National League West standings. Also, with the win, the “Magic Number” is now down to five games, hopefully, we can witness the Dodgers clinching the division sometime in the next several days.
NEXT UP FOR THE DODGERS:
The team will play their final game of the season with the D’Backs this afternoon at 12:10 PST. Clayton Kershaw (14-7,2.18 ERA) will take on Arizona’s (73-79), Patrick Corbin (6-4, 2.99 ERA), as the Dodgers will try to even this series at two wins apiece.
