Dodgers Avoid Sweep With Win Over Pirates

The Los Angeles Dodgers avoiding a sweep when they beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-4 on Monday afternoon. Los Angeles spotted the Pirates a 4-0 lead but battled back for the victory.

For the boys in blue Scott Kazmir got the start. He pitched 5 innings allowing 4 hits and 4 runs. He walked 4 and struck out 4 as he picked up his 6th win of the year.

On the other side Francisco Liriano got the start. He last just 4.1 innings allowing 4 hits and 5 runs, 4 earned. He walked 5 and struck out 3 and picked up his 8th loss of the year.

The Pirates jumped out to an early lead in the first. Starling Marte hit a RBI single that brought in Jody Mercer. Sean Rodriguez drew a walk that brought in Andrew McCutchen. Erik Kratz hit a 2-run single that brought in Jung Ho Kang and Marte and just like that the Pirates led 4-0.

In the third inning the Dodgers got on the board. Justin Turner hit a sacrifice fly that brought in Chris Taylor that cut the lead to 4-1.

In the fifth the Dodgers made their move. Yasiel Puig hit a 2-run single that brought in Kike Hernandez and Turner. Howie Kendrick followed with a RBI single that brought in Tracye Thompson. A.J. Ellis reach base on and infield single that brought in Puig and the Dodgers took a 5-4 lead.

Kenley Jansen came on the 8th with 2 outs and picked up his 22nd save of the year. The Dodgers will continue their road trip in Milwaukee to take on the Brewers tonight at 5:10 p.m. PST
