Recap: Dodgers 7, D-Backs 4 – Zack Greinke to the Rescue

Zack Greinke bailed the Dodgers out of a hole today, going 7 innings, striking out 7 Diamondbacks, helping the Dodgers avoid the sweep and giving the bullpen a rest until the 9th inning when Don Mattingly used three different pitchers to finish the game.

Today we learned a few things:

Some we already knew – Zack Greinke owns the Diamondbacks as a Dodger. He is now 3-0, with a 1.33 ERA versus the Diamondbacks since becoming a Dodger.

Yasiel Puig will be fine – He started off slow last season and eventually found his way onto the National League All Star team

We don’t need to worry about Joc – There was some talk about him having been called up too early, he’s not ready, what’s wrong with him? Then Pederson doubled and scored, reached on an infield single and hit a home-run to center in his first three at-bats, he will be fine.

Alex Guerrero can hit major league pitching – Getting the start because of injuries to Turner and Uribe yesterday, Guerrero upped his trade value and made himself more value to the Dodgers at the same time by going 3 for 5, a single, double and home-run and 4 RBI’s

Jimmy Rollins unfortunately committed two errors, one which should be taken off with review because it was scalded right at him and was very hard to field. However, if it stands it will be his second 2 error game this season.

Adrian Gonzalez continued his hot hitting going 2-5 with a double and Yasmani Grandal continued to show that he belongs and to be Zack Greinke’s favorite catcher, he went 2-5 and scored 2 runs.

Joel Peralta earned his second save of the season, facing only one hitter after Paco Rodriguez and Chris Hatcher gave up 4 runs.

Next up, the Seattle Mariners come to Los Angeles for a 3 game series and since Felix Hernandez pitched today, we will miss him in this series.

The Dodgers have yet to announce a starter for Tuesday, with McCarthy going tomorrow and Anderson on Wednesday.

With the win the Dodgers avoid the streak, reach .500 and get themselves out of last place all in the same game.
