Doc Rivers Calls Steve Nash “One Of The Best”

When the news came out that future Hall of Fame point guard, Steve Nash, would miss the 2014-2015 season due to back issues, it prompted people around the league to look back at Nash’s storied career. Click here to read about Nash’s injury.

Los Angeles Clippers head coach Doc Rivers had this to say about Steve Nash according to ESPN.com.

“He’s one of the best,” Los Angeles Clippers coach Doc Rivers said. “He reminds me a lot of Isiah [Thomas] and [John] Stockton, those smaller point guards that had big hearts and did a lot of stuff. The back-to-back MVPs; at his size, just amazing.”

Steve Nash won back-to-back MVP awards in 2005 and 2006 for the Phoenix Suns. He is also an 8 time All-Star and ranked third all time in assists in NBA history, behind John Stockton and Jason Kidd.

“I think he did a lot of things for the game,” Rivers said. “I think the great ones, to me, they make the game different. Nash did that with his movement, being an aggressive scorer but also a facilitator, finishing under the rim. He just made the game different.

Steve Nash, 40, was on track to be the oldest player in the league this season. Doc Rivers himself retired at age 34, and was a head coach by 40. Chris Paul also offered his respect for Nash. He reflects on his first time going up against the guard.

“I’ll never forget when I came into the NBA, he was the guy that I was coming after. He was the guy. I remember the night before I played him for the first time, I couldn’t sleep. I wanted to play against him so bad. So it’s unfortunate, and I wish him the best.”
