David Freese Lifts Angels Over Rangers 3-2

David Freese hit a 2-run home run in the 7th inning that lifted the Los Angeles Angels over the Texas Rangers 3-2 Friday night. In a day that was headlined by the trade rumors of Josh Hamilton to the announcement of Bruce Jenner it was nice to get between the lines and just watch some good old fashion Angels baseball.

For the Angels Garrett Richards got the start. He had a strong outing as he pitched 7 innings allowing 3 hits and 2 runs. He also struck out 5 and walked 3 as he picked up his 1st win of the season.

On the other hand Wandy Rodriguez got the start for the Rangers. He had a strong outing as well. He pitched 5 innings allowing 5 hits and 1 run. He struck out 5 and walked 3 as well as was awarded a no decision.

The Rangers got on the board first in the 3rd inning. Mitch Moreland grounded into a Fielder’s choice that allowed Jake Smolinski score the first run of the game. Prince Fielder reached base on an infield single that brought in Carlos Corporan and put the Rangers up 2-0 after three innings.

In the 4th inning Chris Iannetta answered with sacrifice fly to center that brought in C.J. Cron and cut the lead to 2-1.

The big moment of the game took place in the 7th inning. David Freese hit the 2-run shot to center field off of Keone Kela. The home run was Freese’s 4th of the season and brought in Mike Trout.

Huston Street came on in the 9th inning and ran into a little bit of trouble. He was able to work his way out of the jam and pick up his 6th save of the year and Angels beat the Rangers 3-2.

The Angels and Rangers will continue their series tomorrow night at 6:05 p.m. PST.
