Cubs Stay Hot Beat Padres 8-7

The Chicago Cubs are one of the hottest teams in baseball and they pushed their winning streak to eight in a row when they beat the San Diego Padres 8-7 last night.

For the Padres Cesar Vargas got the start. He pitched 4 innings allowing 10 hits and 6 runs. He walked 3 and struck out 1 as he would be awarded his second loss of the season.

On the other side Jon Lester got the start. He pitched 6 innings allowing 4 hits and 3 runs. He walked 1 and struck out 4 batter and picked up his fourth win of the year.

The Cubs got the offense going in the second inning when Addison Russell hit a RBI double to right field that brought in Ben Zobrist.

In the third inning Kris Bryant hit a 2-run double that brought in Dexter Fowler and Jason Heyward. Zobrist followed with a RBI single, and David Ross hit a sacrifice fly and after three the Cubs led 5-0.

It was the fourth inning where the Padres got on the board. Melvin Upton hit a solo shot to left field. Zobrist answered back with a RBI single in the bottom half of the inning and Cubs led 6-1.

The Padres would begin to trim into the lead in the 5th inning. Alexei Ramirez hit a RBI double to center field that brought in Jose Pirela.

Jon Jay followed with a RBI double to right field that brought in Adam Rosales, and the Padres cut the lead to 6-3.

Russell hit a RBI triple in the seventh inning that brought in Anthony Rizzo and Zobrist to push the lead to 8-3. In the eighth inning Corey Dickerson hit a pinch hit grand slam that brought in Derek Norris, Upton and Pirela and cut the lead to 8-7.

Hector Rondon came on in the ninth inning and shut the club down to pick up his 7th save of the year.
