Smith was originally selected in the third round of the 2006 MLB draft by the New York Mets. Smith spent two years with the Mets before joining the Cleveland Indians for five years.
He has been with the Angels for the last three years. This season he has posted a 1-4 record with a 3.82 ERA. Chicago made the big splash last week by acquiring Aroldis Chapman from the New York Yankees.
Anaheim is looking to acquire a young prospect to help them rebuild for the future.
