Corey Seager Debuts, Dodgers Fall To Padres 10-7

SAN DIEGO, Ca- Los Angeles Dodgers top rated prospect Corey Seager made his highly anticipated debut but the San Diego Padres spoiled it with a 10-7 victory Thursday night.

For the Dodgers Matt Latos got the start. He lasted just 4 innings and allowed 8 hits and 4 runs. He struck out 4 and was awarded a no decision for his efforts.

On the other side Colin Rea got the start. He pitched 5 innings allowing 4 hits and 2 runs. He stuck out 6 and walked 2. He also received a no decision.

The offense got started in the 1st inning when Justin Upton hit a RBI double that scored Yangervis Solarte. Jedd Gyorko followed with a single to left field that scored Upton and the Padres held a 2-0 lead.

Matt Kemp hit a 2-run single to centerfield that scored Derek Norris and Solarte and just like that the Padres held a 4-0 advantage.

In the 5th inning the Dodgers answered back. Joc Pederson reached on infield single that scored Seager. Chase Utley followed with a RBI double to center and the Dodgers cut the lead to 4-2.

The 6th inning was where the Dodgers made the most noise. Scott Van Slyke got things started with a RBI ground out that pushed Justin Turner across the plate. Seager followed with a 2-run double that brought in Carl Crawford and Yasmani Grandal.

Justin Ruggiano hit a RBI single to bring in Seager and Utley followed with a RBI single of his own to give the Dodgers a 7-4 lead.

In the bottom half of the inning Norris hit a RBI double to cut the lead to 7-5. Solarte hit a solo shot to left in the 7th inning. It was his 12th home run of the season.

Gyorko hit a 2-run blast to left center to the Padres a 8-7 lead in the 8th inning. It was his 11th home run of the campaign. Melvin Upton hit pinch hit RBI triple, and Solarte followed with a RBI double to give the Padres a 10-7 cushion.

Joaquin Benoit came on in the 9th inning and shut the club down for the Padres. He picked up his 2nd save of the year.

The Padres and Dodgers will continue their series tonight at 7:10 p.m. PST
