Colin Rea Shines, Padres Win 5-3

Colin Rea took a no hitter into the 7th inning last night and pitched 8 scoreless inning as the San Diego Padres beat the New York Mets 5-3.

Rea was dominate as he pitched 8 innings allowing 3 hits and 1 run while striking out 5 batters. For his efforts he was awarded his 3rd win of the season.

On the other side Jacob deGrom got the start. He pitched just 5 innings allowing 8 hits and 3 runs. He struck out 2 batters and picked up his first loss of the season.

Wil Myers got things started for San Diego in the first inning. He hit a solo shot, his 6th of the year that put the Padres up 1-0.

In the second inning Rea helped himself out with a RBI single that brought in Derek Norris that pushed the lead to 2-1. Alexei Ramirez hit a RBI double in the third inning that brought in Brett Wallace and pushed the lead to 3-0.

Norris hit a bomb in the 6th inning. It was his second of the year and pushed the lead to 4-0. Jon Jay hit a RBI double that brought in Jemile Weeks and the Padres led 5-0 after 6.

In the 9th inning the Mets began to come to life. Curtis Granderson hit a homerun to straight away centerfield. That lifted Rea from the game and manager Andy Green brought in Brandon Hand in relief.

Yoenis Cespedes hit a two run shot that brought in David Wright and the Mets cut the lead to 5-3. Green was forced to bring in Fernando Rodney for the last two outs and the Padres beat the Mets with a score of 5-3.

These two teams will square off again tonight a 7:40 p.m. PST
