Clippers Win 121-106 In Griffin’s Return Against Lakers

Clippers

Staples Center was the scene of the third battle for Los Angeles this NBA season. The Clippers and Lakers matched up yet again Friday evening in a series that has gone the Clippers way recently, with them leading the season series 2-0 coming into this one.

Prior to the opening tip the visitors in this showdown, the Clippers, were given a bit of a boost with word that their star would be returning from a lengthy injury.

Typically Griffin has struggled in his first game back from injury. This game didn’t follow suit. Griffin stormed out of the gate, helping his club out to an early lead and never letting up. Griffin finished his night with a game-leading 24 points along with 6 assists and 6 rebounds. This was as good of a performance as the Clippers could have hoped for in what has been an injury riddled season so far.

The Lakers on the other hand were playing without rookie guard Lonzo Ball, while their other rookie phenom Kyle Kuzma drew the difficult assignment of Griffin for the night. Griffin bullied Kuzma in the post early on but the rookie was able to battle back as the game continued. Kuzma finished with a solid 13 points with 2 assists and 5 rebounds.

Each of the Los Angeles teams needed a big performance from players outside the starting five in order to have a chance to win this matchup. Both got it. The Clippers received double-digit scoring from two bench guys that have been consistently putting up points lately Montrezl Harrell and Lou Williams. Harrell finished with 15 points and 9 rebounds while Williams closed it out with 23 points. Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance Jr. brought the energy off the bench for the purple and gold with 20 and 16 points respectively.

The Clippers broke out to an early lead and were able to hold it throughout leading this one wire to wire in a 121-106 victory.

The Clippers improve their record to 15-19 on the season while the Lakers fall to 11-23. The Clippers improve their lead on the season series to 3-0 and the two teams will face off one more time in the last game of the regular season on April 11th.

The Clippers will stay in Los Angeles to take on the Hornets Sunday. Meanwhile the Lakers will head to Houston to take on the Rockets.
