Clippers Trade For Jeff Green
- Updated: February 18, 2016
As all Clipper fans became resigned to the fact that another trade deadline had come and gone with no movement, Doc Rivers and company make the big move we’ve all been waiting for. Former Thunder, Celtics and Grizzlies small forward Jeff Green was acquired in a trade with Memphis for Lance Stephenson and 1 lottery-protected 2019 1st round pick.

Stephenson’s name had been in rumors in the previous few days due to his large salary of $9 million to go with his limited playing time this season in which he was only averaging 15.8 minutes per game as a Clipper.
Green on the other hand looks like he will plug right into the Clippers starting lineup. Averaging 12.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game so far this season, Green will not be bringing a huge scoring punch to the Clippers offense. What Green has been known for throughout his career however has been the tremendous energy he plays with on both sides of the ball.
Green is currently making just over $9 million this season and is in the final year of his contract. Part of this trade helped the Clippers acquire Green’s bird rights. This gives the Clippers an advantage over other teams when it comes to re-signing the 29 year-old ex-Georgetown Hoya.
This was a great last minute deadline deal for the Clippers and one that will impact the team greatly moving forward as this seems to fill the one position Los Angeles has been struggling with for a long time.
