Power Forward – Brandon Bass
Let’s go ahead and kick off the conversation on this one with the talk of Los Angeles reportedly shopping Blake Griffin.
I’m not usually one to make predictions but let me just say this, before his injuries this season, Griffin was getting 23.2 points, 5 assists and 8.7 rebounds per game. That is not a generic stat line and in case we’ve all forgotten this guy is a superstar. So take all of the rumors with a grain of salt this deadline week until something is made official. My prediction is this guy isn’t going anywhere unless management loses their minds.
So assuming Griffin stays, what kind of backup would help the Clippers at the four spot? This team struggles getting rebounds and particularly the backups do. Paul Pierce is not a solid backup big man just because he’s slowed down. He struggles to get boards and his low-post defense is a liability. A close-to-home option, somebody tell Brandon Bass to change locker rooms at Staples the team in the playoff race needs him. Bass is familiar with Rivers as he played for him for a couple of seasons in Boston so he’d plug right in. He’s shooting a great 52% from the field in 19.1 minutes per game for the Lakers this season. Bass also is only making $3 million this season so it wouldn’t take much to have him move on over from the dark side.
